2021 "Cohort 1"

Pinot Noir, 2021

Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir

Appellation: Russian River Valley, Sonoma, CA

Progressive Scale Weight: 3R

Pairings: You can take this wine in two directions - serve it with lighter-bodied meals like hearty salads and salmon, or pair it with braises like coq au vin and let its acidity cut right through the richness. Our Pinot Noir doesn’t shy away from food, and you shouldn’t either.

If tea and mixed berry jam are your…well, jam…then this is the wine for you. But wait, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. First things first, the color of this wine is just breathtaking. Wine is best enjoyed with all our senses, so it’s okay to take a minute and lose yourself in the color of this juice. The nose and palate of this wine remind us of warm, homemade mixed berry jam, served with a cup of herbal tea wafting over your plate. These Pinot Noir grapes were nice and ripe when they were picked, and we also blended in a tiny amount of oak-aged Pinot Noir - all of which helped boost the body of this wine to a 3R on our Progressive Scale. Mostly we love this wine because it tastes like a perfect example of Pinot Noir from around the globe. Learn to recognize this wine, and you’ll be able to spot Pinot Noir from Burgundy, California, South Africa, and all of the world’s major varietal growing regions.

Some Quick Info About

PWC's Core Tenets

PWC is not made from bulk juice.

No leftover juice or shiner bottles here - we've been working with this wine since it was grapes on a vine! We work with growers like Juan Gamino, a first generation Mexican-American grower in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma. Over time, our entire grape portfolio will be as intentional as our wine.

PWC is a new way to think about wine.

Learning about wine is intimidating. To make it easier, we developed the Progressive Scale - a way of categorizing wine by its body instead of varietal or region. Our current vintage represents lighter-bodied wines, and future vintages will include fuller-bodied wines like Cabernet and Chardonnay.

PWC pays it forward.

$1 of every bottle or piece of merchandise sold goes to support learning opportunities for the Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color participants. When you support PWC, you're supporting equity and inclusion in the wine industry. Learn about our Program!

PWC is a vehicle for industry learning.

For ten weeks each year, the Urban Grape Wine Studies Award for Students of Color interns work a full harvest season in Sonoma to learn the ins and outs of winemaking. The sales from their cohort's wine will allow the next season's interns to have the same experience. Each vintage is named after the cohort that helped to make it. We're changing the wine world one vintage at a time!

At PWC, everyone is a wine drinker.

Progressive Wine Company is for EVERYONE. Let's face it, the wine world doesn't need another brand. What it needs is a new way to think about wine. This is the only way we'll encourage future generations to stay connected with the industry. PWC is here to build a bigger table - and set a wine glass at each place setting.
